Changes Expected in 2019 to the Fine Needle Aspiration CPT Code Set
As part of its annual update to the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) code set, bundling will, once again, be demonstrated through the introduction of new codes. Bundling simply means that services that were previously separately-reported will now be combined into one CPT code. The determining factor to bundle codes is when the pair has been identified as being performed together 75% or more of the time. CPT code 10022, which describes fine needle aspiration with imaging guidance, has been identified as being performed in conjunction with 76942 (ultrasound guidance) more than 75% of the time; therefore, it is expected to result in the deletion of 10022 and the addition of new codes that bundle the procedure and the guidance. Please note: Final Codes will not be known until the 2019 version of CPT has been published. As always, APS will communicate relevant updates as they become available.
The APS team has minimized the work to be done on my end by maximizing and perfecting the computerized transmissions of data between my practice and APS.
