In December of 2013, insurance carrier Cigna began notifying providers that it will no longer pay for professional services related to most clinical laboratory tests. More specifically, this will apply to lab codes CMS designates with a 3 or 9 indicator. CAP has gone on record to oppose this change, citing multiple legal victories contrary to Cigna’s policy. To date, Cigna has made no change in their stance to this policy, which is scheduled to take effect on March 10, 2014. This is discouraging news for practices nationwide and APS will continue to monitor this situation. If you have questions about how this will directly affect your practice, please contact your Practice Manager.
The APS team has minimized the work to be done on my end by maximizing and perfecting the computerized transmissions of data between my practice and APS.
