On October 11, 2012, CMS revised the implementation date for its revised national policy for Place of Service (POS) code assignment. According to Change Request (CR) 7631, the new start date to follow this policy is April 1, 2013. This policy was originally delayed from an April 1, 2012 start date to help address an overflow of questions the policy provoked. Unfortunately, the revised POS Policy is not much different from what was released earlier this year. The only concession granted was a clarification HBMA requested with respect to “infrequent” locations in which the professional component of diagnostic tests is performed.
